Working WITH our dogs to cover the search area and work the odor picture can be difficult and often results in the handler taking over. When we aren't aware of our own impact, we can cause our dogs to miss a hide, find extra hides in pooling odor, or add a lot of time to their search because we end up being "in the way".

Retriever Hunt Tests and Field Trials require your dog to Honor another working team - off leash.
It can be VERY challenging, and is often the reason a lot of dogs fail, even if they did great on the rest of the test.
But we're about to make it a lot easier! All with positive training games!
The Honor System is a clear, step by step process to teach your dog what the Honor skill is, and how to get rewarded for doing it. You will learn how to set up each layer of skill and build up to honoring real working teams.
A big part of that is learning how to create a reward sequence that you can use in competition.
It's one thing to have your dog be steady for marks with gunfire and birds. It's a whole other thing to be steady watching another dog's marks PLUS watching that dog launch off the line to get them.
How does your dog know when the marks are for her or if she is honoring? How do we get our dog to understand what the honor is, what to expect and how she will get rewarded for this amazing feat of self control?
First we have to make it clear to you! And then you'll see how easy it can be to teach your dog.
In this webinar, you will learn:
- The individual parts of the Honoring skill
- Start the process using crate games
- Add a cue to make it clear
- Fun games to GROW the skill with a second dog.
- Transfer the skill to the field
- How to create a Reward Sequence that you can extend to competition.
Why does this work?
Because the dog has two cues that tell her what is about to happen and what behaviors will earn the reward sequence. First there is a visual cue of another working team at the line. Second we have a verbal cue that cues the dog to be steady while the marks go off and while the working dog launches to retrieve. Our cues predicts what is about to happen and what behaviors to perform. It also predicts the reward sequence that will occur - making the behavior worth the effort!
Most failures occur in Honoring because the dog sees two major problems happening. 1) She 's being denied the retrieves, and 2) She's being denied the thrill of racing the other dog to the prize!
The Honor System fixes both problems by making each one into a cued behavior that has a guaranteed reward. Clear for you, clear for the dog and rewarding to both of you!
